Peggy, a dog that won the “Ugliest Dog in the United Kingdom” contest in 2023, became a movie star in a new Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film, Deadpool & Wolverine.
She will play Dogpool, the chatty anti-hero’s pet dog. The casting of Peggy for the role was explained by star Ryan Reynolds to Empire: “The reason I was a big supporter of her was because she feels like the animal manifestation of Wade Wilson.”
Wade, Deadpool’s secret identity, was left with a completely disfigured face after he gained his super powers in an experiment that promised to cure him of cancer.
“It’s love at first sight,” Reynolds said of his character upon meeting his furry friend. “He loves Dogpool.”
Despite the unusual title, Peggy, a mix of Pug and Chinese Crested Dog, is considered beautiful “inside and out” by her owner, Holly Middleton.
The dog has her own Instagram account, where she shares her routine, now as a star. Recently its name was changed to @Dogpool.
“If Deadpool is the ‘Jesus of Marvel,’ the dog is God,” one fan commented on a post on the social network.
“Deadpool & Wolverine” is set to open in theaters on July 26.
