The first video posted on Youtube, on April 23, 2005, made by Jawed Karim, a young man from the United States, 25 years old at that time, made a lot of money for the content creator.

Currently, the Jawed channel has 4.7 million subscribers and has a single video, the first on the platform, which has 321 million views.

The recording is only 19 seconds long and shows Karim visiting a zoo in  San Diego, California. In the video he says, “All right, here we are in front of the elephants. Chests… And that’s cool. And that’s all there is to say.”

The video was recorded by Karim’s high school friend, Yakov Lapitsky, who at the time was a doctoral student at the University of Delaware.

What was the profit?

According to the New York Times, Karim never received a “salary, benefits, or even a formal title” from YouTube, but he did get $64 million in shares in the platform. Today, the network is valued at $183 billion.
