The São Paulo Civil Police arrested valet Sérgio Salomão Bernardes, 48, suspected of killing the neighbor of his building, the elderly man Júlio César da Silva, 60, on Tuesday (25), on a street in Ribeirão Preto, in the interior of the state. Detained in flagrante delicto, the man had his arrest transformed into preventive detention by the Justice.

Sérgio Bernardes was known in the Parque Residencial Jardim das Pedras condominium, located in the east zone of Ribeirão Preto – about 5 thousand people live in the set of buildings.

According to the EPTV broadcaster, residents of the residential stated that Sérgio Bernardes had received an order to leave the condominium due to the extremely disturbance of peace and death threats against members of the administration and residents.

In the eviction order, it is also stated that Sérgio threatened neighbors with knives, cursed people, made noise with a sledgehammer at night and provoked fights and arguments with those who questioned his attitudes.

The document also shows that the valet would be evicted from the condominium for not paying the condominium fee since 2015 – he kept the apartment on account of his mother’s inheritance.

Despite

the confusion in the condominium, the crime happened on a street in the center of Ribeirão Preto. According to a witness, Sérgio and Julio met on Barão do Amazonas Street and began arguing.

To the Civil Police, the witness stated that Sérgio punched Júlio César in the face, who fell to the ground and hit his head the pavement. Then, the valet also trampled on the elderly man’s chest several times.

The Mobile Emergency Care Service (SAMU) was activated and Júlio was taken to the Santa Casa de Ribeirão Preto, but he did not resist.

In contact with Portal iG, the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP) reported that Sérgio was immobilized by people who were passing by on the street.

Now, the Civil Police is investigating whether the crime was premeditated by the valet and whether there is any relationship with the fights in the residence.
